I'll have to forward 30 seconds and backwards a few 10 seconds to "trigger" a new transcoding cache file then everything plays fine. But the video plays fine with the subtitle. Sometimes (roughly 80% of the time), after selecting subtitle, the video play nicely for about 10 to 15 secs, then the audio get cuts off.

Sometime you selected the subtitle before selecting PLAY, but after the video starts playing, you go into the settings to see, the subtitle = None.

This is even more wonky if you're using the android app (sorry don't know about iOS), and chromecast it on your tv.

I'm not sure if this is the web gui interface problem not communicating well with the server or it has to do with the server system. When you resume a video, it "remembers" your subtitle settings in the options below, but subtitle isn't showing till you "trigger" it. What i meant by re-select is that, when you click the option to choose subtitle while it's playing the video, the subtitle is clearly selected but no subtitle is showing in the video, you'll have to choose "None", then wait for the video to buffer from the server, then select the correct subtitle again before the subtitle will appear. When playing video (.mkv or mp4) with subtitle (.srt), even when you resume or click "next" episode, you have to re-select the subtitle. So I'm starting to think it has to do with my setup rather than a Plex issue. andīut I don't really see any of these similar issues below being reported. , I'm sure a lot of Plex user do use in these combination. Else I hope Plex could really give come c**p about it.Ĭhromecast, Plex Web, Subtitles and MKV files. Please do smack your advise at me if it's some settings or whatever that I did wrong. Plex Community Discord Rules i don't have any gripe with PLEX at this time, but having heard that emby uses a lot less resources, was more responsive during playback interaction, etc., I was hoping it would work better for me and was going to buy a lifetime subscription.Latest Regular Threads: No Stupid Q&A: Tool Tuesday: Build Help: Share Your Build: Submit Troubleshooting Post Files not showing up correctly? i may try it again in a couple of years perhaps. The last 2 issues have no work around, so at that point, i decided emby is not for me at this time.

as a some times software developer/ consultant myself, the lack of logging for most of the error conditions above is also really troubling. lastly, emby also had a lot of problems with srt subtitles on several occasions.

Even worse, was that for a select dozen or so movies, it was not able to identify at all, even manually, it would not show an entry for certain obscure movies yet going to the movie databases I could find the movie meta data. however, after finally scanning my movie collection, i found that emby's movie detection algorithm just wasn't as flexible as PLEX it had a hard time with several movies that I had to manually identify things like the Star Wars series. and then emby started to populate my movies into the library. to work around the issue, i created a separate folder, and symlinked all my movies except for the sub-folder with 000 permissions. I had to discover this the hard way by adding a movie one by one and trying a rescan until i found the folder that broke it. i could have 1000 movies and a sub-folder with 000 permissions and it will not scan the other 999 movies. emby will completely abort the entire library scan and not even leave a log messages about the issue. PLEX would just ignore it and continue on detecting other movie files. in my case, I had a sub-folder with permissions 000, which I had set to exclude a copy of a movie I encoded with some experimental settings and didn't want PLEX to pick up. it turns out, if the file scanner encounters certain conditions (that PLEX handles just fine), it completely aborts everything. I did finally figure out the problem with emby as to why no movie files were showing up in the library. glad i tried it, but just too many issues compared to PLEX. Ok, after a month of dorking around with emby, i've decided it's not for me.
